Profile
Rhona Duffy is a Scotland-based visual artist and craftsperson working in mosaic and glass. Her mosaic work blends classical Roman mosaic principles with modern artistic approaches inspired by Art Nouveau, music and nature. She is also an experienced educator, workshop facilitator, editor and community arts practitioner. She is the founder of Studio 164 Falkirk, where she teaches mosaic and glass workshops, and supports established and emerging creatives to teach. And she enjoys encouraging people to learn and take part in classes. Rhona has had a 30-year career in communications management and delivery, primarily in financial services. She has excellent writing and editorial skills, is an expert in storytelling and in turning complex topics into clear, compelling stories, and understands how content supports engagement, as well as business sales and success. She welcomes freelance communications projects alongside her mosaic / Studio 164 work.
Professional Experience
Founder & Studio Lead, Studio 164 Falkirk
2025 – Present
- Founded and manages a creative studio and teaching venue in Falkirk, Scotland.
- Organises mosaic and glass workshops, exhibitions and visiting tutor programmes.
- Teaches beginner-to-advanced mosaic and glass techniques.
Mosaic Artist/Craftsperson & Tutor
2012 – Present
- Produces commissioned and exhibition mosaic artwork, with notable commissions being mosaic works for Falkirk’s town centre as part of the ‘Falkirk: From Place to Creative Space‘ initiative (2026), the garden at the Sexual Assault Response Coordination Service located in The Meadows at NHS Forth Valley (2025), and the garden of NHS Bo’ness Community Hospital (2022).
- Delivers workshops across Central Scotland in mixed-media mosaic and glass art, including several years teaching at the charity Wider Access to School Project in Denny and at the Central Scotland School of Craft in Dunblane.
- Takes part in exhibitions and markets in Scotland, including Greengallery exhibitions and markets, the British Association for Modern Mosaic exhibitions, and 3D2D events – including the Royal Highland Show, West End Fair Edinburgh and Assembly Rooms Edinburgh.
- Volunteers each year at her children’s schools, leading mosaic and glass classes/projects.
Communicator / Storyteller
1996 – Present
- Rhona has 30+ years’ experience in corporate communications, including internal and external communications, PR sponsorship, advertising, events, digital and marketing. Worked mainly in financial services, with some projects and contracts in the charitable sector too.
- July 2026: Delivered a project (freelance) for Artlink Central, which involved working with their client Barnardo’s Scotland. Rhona led two sessions with young refugees to produce a printed zine showcasing their artwork and poetry.
- April 2026 – present: Rhona is one of the co-leads of Open Studios Falkirk, an annual event showcasing the work and studios of Falkirk & district’s artists and makers. Rhona co-manages the event with local painter Nikki Monaghan. For the 2026 event, Rhona managed participant registration, produced a new website, brought in new participants, led on marketing and public relations, and managed graduate contributions. This is a voluntary role and part of Rhona’s giveback to her local community in support of local creatives.
- November 2022 – present: Rhona is the founding editor and publisher of the annual, international magazine Mosaic & Glass.
