I’m fascinated by finding out about other artists and their inspirations. A visit to Barcelona has long been on my bucket list, particularly as I’m so inspired by Antonio Gaudi along with Spanish music, language and culture.
I’d been looking forward to taking a workshop with Rachel Davies for a long time. And I finally got to take her Slate Flowers online workshop last month. I love using slate in my work, but usually it’s the substrate. So it was great to turn things on their head and use slate as the teressae instead.
Here I’ll cover the materials you’ll need to use if you’re making exterior mosaics. You need to make sure that you choose materials that are suitable for the weather where you live.
Selkirk-based mosaic artist Joy Parker rallied local people and artists from across the UK, to enact her vision of a fitting tribute to the Scottish town’s long legacy of shoemakers. I went along to help Joy with the installation.
